About Me

I've always been a storyteller. Okay, that's not entirely true. I spent the first couple years of life pretty preoccupied with soiling myself and trying to shove thumbtacks in my mouth. When I got a little older though, that's when the storytelling thing really took off! With time, I found myself deriving influence from the world around me and the media I consumed. Games like Grim Fandango and Mass Effect, as well as films and TV shows like Looney Tunes and The Simpsons would deepen my barely-developed child brain’s sense of wonder and appreciation for narrative and aesthetics. Moreover, they played an invaluable role in shaping my own voice as a writer and artist.

Following an upbringing of participating in a panoply of creative pursuits (*from Filmmaking to Art to Acting to Improv), I attended the University of California, Irvine and received a degree in Film & Media Studies with an emphasis in screenwriting. There I wrote and directed several student films (*one of which was screened at UCI’s Spotlight Festival), hosted two weekly talk radio shows, was heavily involved in the art club, and acted as anchor and head comedy writer on our school news program. I graduated summa cum laude and won many accolades for my creative prowess, including Best Writer of the Class of 2020, as voted on by the Film department faculty.

Notice how I said class of 2020? Yeah, so after I graduated, some stuff happened on a global scale which resulted in scarce employment opportunities and lots of free time at my parents' house. It was then that my friend Ian Ring, an MFA student then enrolled in LCAD's game design program, would request my assistance writing his thesis project, a vertical slice titled The Friend-Ship. I had a blast working on this game and from there only sought to sink myself deeper into game development. Ian and I would co-found an indie studio, Purple Car, and release our first title, Up Late with Phil Crocker in 2021, with more projects in the works. Soon after, I landed a job as an Associate Release Manager at Maximum and Modus Games. Only time will tell where my work and aspirations take me next but by golly, I’d say things are looking pretty bright!
